Copy something new and the previous clip is gone — unless you keep a history. Windows 10 and 11 have one built in, and a clipboard manager can keep a longer one.
Option 1: the built-in clipboard history (Win+V)
Press Win+V. The first time, Windows asks you to turn clipboard history on (you can also do it in Settings > System > Clipboard). After that, Win+V shows your recent clips, and clicking one pastes it.
It is quick, but limited: it keeps up to 25 items, and everything except pinned items is cleared when you restart the PC. There is no search, and it does not reach your phone.
Option 2: a clipboard manager that keeps everything
Clipboard+ for Windows (our app) sits in the tray and saves the text and images you copy the moment you copy them. Your history stays until you delete it, and you can search it, organize it into groups and snippets, and pull it up with a hotkey.
- Install Clipboard+ from the Microsoft Store; it starts in the system tray.
- Copy as usual — every text and image clip is saved automatically.
- Press the global hotkey to open the quick-pick popup at your cursor, pick a clip with Ctrl+1–9 and press Enter to paste it.
- Open the window to search, pin, edit, or keep frequently used text as snippets.
Between your phone and PC
Paired with the Clipboard+ Android app, what you copy on your phone pastes on your PC and the other way around, through your own Google Drive. Clipboard history, snippets, groups, search and the quick-pick popup are free; Pro adds sync, unlimited image storage and PDF export.
