How to keep a timer on screen while using other apps on Android

Updated

The timer in the Clock app runs in the background, but you can't see it while you are in another app — you have to pull down notifications or switch back. For studying with a lecture, timing a presentation, or a game, it helps to have the time on screen the whole time.

Set it up with FloatTimer+

FloatTimer+ (our app) floats timers, stopwatches and tally counters over any app as small cards you can drag anywhere.

  1. Install FloatTimer+ from Google Play and allow "Display over other apps".
  2. Create a timer — any hours, minutes and seconds, or a quick preset such as 25 minutes.
  3. Float it and open the app you are using. Start, pause and reset from the card itself.
  4. Fold it into a bubble when you need the space; the time keeps running.

More than one at a time

You can make as many timers, counters and stopwatches as you like for free, and they keep running. The free version shows one on screen at a time; Pro floats as many as you want at once, or a short ad unlocks that for 24 hours.

Questions

Can I see a timer over YouTube or a game?

Yes. A floating timer stays on top of any app, including videos and games, once you allow "Display over other apps".

Is there a Pomodoro preset?

FloatTimer+ has 1, 5, 10, 25, 30 and 60-minute quick presets, so a 25-minute focus timer is one tap.
