Reading long pages on a monitor makes it easy to lose the line. A reading ruler highlights the line you are on, or dims the rest of the screen, so your eyes stay on track.
Option 1: Line focus in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge has Immersive Reader, a clean reading view for web pages. In its reading preferences, Line focus highlights one, three or five lines at a time. It only works on pages that open in Immersive Reader, not in PDFs, documents or other apps.
Option 2: a focus strip over any app
ReadFocus+ for Windows (our app) lays a focus strip over whatever you are reading — a web page, a PDF, a document, code. Mask dims the top and bottom of the screen and leaves a clear band; Highlight marks the line you are on. The strip is click-through, so you keep scrolling and clicking underneath as before.
- Install ReadFocus+ from the Microsoft Store.
- Start it from the floating panel or with a keyboard shortcut, and choose Mask or Highlight.
- Move the strip to your line, or nudge it up and down with shortcuts as you read.
- Lock it, hide it, or move it to another monitor from the panel.
Free and Pro
The free version includes both modes and three themes, in sessions of up to 60 minutes. Pro is a one-time purchase that removes the time limit and adds premium themes, strip height and opacity settings, and keep-screen-on. There are no ads.
