How to use a calculator on top of other apps on Android

Updated

Checking a price in a shopping app, splitting a bill in a chat, converting a currency while booking — switching to the Calculator app and back means losing your place and remembering numbers in your head. A floating calculator stays on screen over the app you are using.

Option 1: split screen

Android can show two apps at once in split screen. Open the recent apps screen, choose split screen for one app and pick the Calculator for the other half. It works, but each app gets only half of the screen.

Option 2: a floating calculator

FloatCalc+ (our app) is a calculator window that floats over any app. The calculator, unit converter and currency converter share one window you can drag anywhere; fold the keypad to a single line or shrink the panel to an icon at the screen edge when you need the space.

  1. Install FloatCalc+ from Google Play and allow "Display over other apps".
  2. Open the floating calculator and drag it where it doesn't cover what you need.
  3. Type the expression — powers, roots and percentages work too — and copy the answer to the clipboard.
  4. Switch to the unit or currency converter in the same window. Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank, refresh daily and keep working offline.

Free and Pro

The floating calculator is free for 60 minutes a day; the title bar shows how much is left, and a short ad gives a 24-hour pass. Pro removes the daily limit and ads and adds all unit categories, 30+ currencies and more themes.
