Timing a speedrun, a workout, a task or a meeting is easier when the stopwatch stays in view instead of hiding behind the window you are using. Windows has one built-in way, and a floating-timer app adds more.
Option 1: the Clock app's Stopwatch with "Keep on top"
The Clock app that comes with Windows has a Stopwatch tab. Start the stopwatch and choose Keep on top, and it shows in a small window that stays above other windows.
It is quick and needs nothing extra. It shows one stopwatch in a fixed small window.
Option 2: stopwatches that float as cards
FloatTimer+ for Windows (our app) floats stopwatches, timers and counters above every window as small pastel cards, each timed separately. A card never takes focus, so clicking it leaves your cursor where you were typing or playing.
- Install FloatTimer+ from the Microsoft Store; it lives in the system tray.
- Create a stopwatch and float it.
- Start, pause and restart with the ▶/⏸/↻ button on the card itself — no need to open the app.
- Drag the card anywhere or resize it, and collapse it into a small bubble or push it against the screen edge when you want the space back.
If a game covers the stopwatch
No window can stay on top of a game running in exclusive full-screen mode. Switch the game's display mode to borderless or windowed in its settings, and floating windows — the Clock app's or FloatTimer+ cards — show above it again.
Free and Pro
You can make as many stopwatches, timers and counters as you like, with no ads. The free version floats two cards at a time; Pro is a one-time purchase that floats as many as you want.
